How does an LED lamp actually work?

led lamps works

Let's start from the beginning. The abbreviation LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. The LEDs even are small light sources that are illuminated by moving electrons via a semiconductor material. LEDs are used in all kinds of devices they are used to work as lights, but also to illuminate a room and even as street lighting and to illuminate buildings on the outside. There are actually two types, namely the Low-Powered LEDs and the High-Powered LEDs. The first is actually meant to draw attention to something and are used, for example, as a blinking light on your camera or as the well-known red button on your television. The second version illuminates spaces and the like, a very big difference.

What is Solid-State lighting?

LED lighting belongs to the light technologies that we call Solid-State lighting. This also includes OLEDs (Organic Light Emitting Diodes). These consist of sheets of carbon-based compositions that, when current is applied, will light up through transparent electrodes. Solid-State Lighting (SSL) is the most commonly used form of Light Emitting Diodes and has the potential to revolutionize the efficiency, but also the appearance and quality of your lighting.

Differences in lighting

With incandescent lamps, the light is made by electricity by flowing a metal filament until it has become so hot that it starts to glow. This glow will generate the color of the light. About 90% of the energy that is released during this process is heating and therefore not light, which can also explain the high operating costs of the led light bulbs. If we look at a fluorescent lamp, an electric current works through a long or compact tube containing gases. The chemical process ensures that ultraviolet light is made, which is then converted back to visible light through the phosphor layer on the inside of the tube. LED lamps to provide highly efficient light from the small light sources, which we call LEDs. These small light sources will be illuminated by moving electrons through a semiconductor material. In comparison with fluorescent lamps and light bulbs, only a very small amount of heat is generated. This little heat goes out at the back through the heat sink of the LED lamp. In this way, little energy will be lost and the LED light will just feel normal if you put your hand on it. When comparing these different types of light sources, it soon becomes clear to you that LED lighting is the best option for lighting your home or other rooms. It will save you a lot of costs, you hardly need to replace the lamps and the quality of the light will not deteriorate. You have the same heat as the old-fashioned, more traditional lamps, while they, in turn, can break much faster and ultimately bring you more energy costs than if you used LED lighting.
